Your Culture is Already Hybrid
‘We want a hybrid culture’ is the new ‘we want to be agile’.
Here’s the thing, your working culture is already hybrid. It is composed of different elements that combine to deliver productive work. Or not.
So maybe instead of wanting a hybrid culture, your organisation should strive to create a ‘productive culture’. One that has a shared sense of belonging, where people act with humanity and dignity, where work is manageable and priorities are understood. One where trust is assumed, not earned. Where people can speak up without fear of reprisal, where change is seen as positive evolutionary activity and where good behaviour is celebrated.
Where a person will need to work in a given week, will depend on who they are required to work with, and how, in order to build quality products, meet deadlines and generate new (often unknown) ideas. These workspaces should be (physically and emotionally) safe, clean, and provide an environment where people can be the best of themselves.
The best cultures have been working this way for years. People are not required to clock on or clock off, but they are expected to be good humans, who work hard at their job and collaborate with other like-minded people to do good work.
Your culture is already hybrid, now all you need to do is to make it safe enough to be productive.
