The Five Cultures Quiz

What Is It?

The Five Cultures quiz is an opportunity for you to gauge the culture within your team or organisation right now. Based on your responses, your culture will either feel Vibrant, Combatant, Pleasant, Stagnant or Toxic.

What Information Is Needed?

There are 12 culture questions, which are preceded by six demographic questions. 

The six demographic questions focus on who you are, where you are based and what role and country you’re in. Your email address is also required so that we can send your report to you. Please click here for more information on how the information you supply is used.

The 12 culture questions have five possible answers. The answer key (right) provides an explanation of each answer. You should choose the answer that describes how your culture feels now.

Strongly Agree - You always see the statement being demonstrated

Agree - You consistently see the statement being demonstrated

Neutral - You sometimes see the statement being demonstrated

Disagree - You rarely see the statement being demonstrated

Strongly Disagree - You never see the statement being demonstrated

About The Quiz

I developed the quiz with a team from the University of Georgia in the US over a period of 9 months. The quiz centres around a model that I first used in my book Culture Fix, published in 2019.

The team were able to determine that by asking 12 simple questions on the emotional intelligence and engagement of employees it was possible to provide an assessment on the current culture experience (to within an error rate of less than 1%). They used a huge range of research to develop the model to which I then applied my own experiences and a range of engagement surveys to validate the results.

How your information is used

The information supplied in the Five Cultures quiz is held by Colin D Ellis PTY Ltd and us alone. We do not share or sell your information to anyone. The demographic information is used to assess the lived experience of culture by different people, in different roles around the world. Your email address is only ever used to send you your report. It is not used in any reports we may run or to identify you in any way.

FAQs

  • In our testing, the quiz took between 3-5 minutes to complete.

  • It takes us a maximum of an hour to process your report and send it over to you.

  • Of course! Culture changes all the time, so it’s always good to get a sense of where you are and some insights on the actions you can take.

  • Yes! Simply copy the URL at the top of this page, share it on social media or send it to your teammates, family or friends so they can assess where their culture is too.

  • Even though working conditions can be the same for everyone, the lived experience can be quite different from person to person, hence why people can have a different view of where they feel the culture is.
